A Natural Talent
From an early age, Marc Jacobs displayed a passion for design. At 15, Jacobs worked at Charivari, an avant-garde second-hand clothing store in Manhattan’s Upper West Side. He went on to attend the prestigious Parson School of Design, receiving the Gold Thimble from Perry Ellis and Chester Weinberg for his senior thesis. He debuted the first line featuring the Marc Jacobs label in 1986, becoming the youngest designer to receive the Fashion Designer of America Perry Ellis Award that same year.
